Fans of the popular indie game, The Binding of Isaac, are stoked over the relaunch with The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. In this remake, you play as the character Isaac who has been locked into a basement by his mother after she receives a message from God. However, unlike the basement you have in your home, this one is filled with monsters. As you can imagine, this game is not for younger players.
This remake of the difficult adventure game, The Binding of Isaac, has kept the essence of the original. With a combination of Zelda-like games and rogue-like games, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth will have players spending hundreds of hours trying to complete it, just as with the original. This 2D dungeon crawler features random levels that take place on different floors of the basement. There, Isaac must defeat monsters while finding objects that and searching for the levels final boss so he can advance to the next level.
The replay ability and extreme difficulty of this title are the two main reasons players find the game so addicting. The brutality of your enemies ensures you die often, but each time you play, the game is different. By utilizing a new Flash motor, the creator, Edmund McMillen, is able to let loose with his creativity and resulted in a remake that contains more objects, characters and rooms. There is also an added cooperative mode to allow for two players on a local network.
The only real issue gamers have with this sequel is that the game will often times not let you know what the items you find are for and leave you to figure it out for yourself by visiting wikis for the game. Regardless, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a great game that is darker and more sinister than the original. If you liked the original, there is no doubt that you will enjoy this remake.
